Dan-A
Hi All, Can menu control disable the windows buttons for close, min, max & restore? (found in the top right corner of a window) Can you also disable the windows "control box"? (top left corner of a window) I have read that SecureFM does it, do i need both plug-ins if i want custom menus & disable windows buttons? Thanks --Dan
gregincolumbus
Menu Control allows you to diable the window box on the left but not the min/max/close box on right. It allows great control of menus/submenus/shortcuts, etc. Secure FM disables thse right hand boxes but does not give quite as much control of menu controls. Unless Dacons updates Menu Control, you will need both to do what you want

CobaltSky
There is a problem here. You need to be aware that MenuControl and SecureFM cannot both be used simultaneously - they conflict. In fact if you even try to launch FileMaker with both of them in the System directory (FileMaker Extensions on a Mac) you will likely get an error message telling warning you of the problem. But with or without an error message, this is dangerous territory to venture into. Both plug-ins seek to control and intervene in the same application sub-routines - which is a recipe for a very bumpy ride. You might be better off given your requirements, to have a look at the 'MenuMagic' companion offering for SecureFM - which does some comparable things to what the Dacons product will do. Or if you want to stay with MenuControl, you should look for a different product to control the window command boxes. An example would be the WindowUtility plug-in from PracticeMaker. WindowUtility and MenuControl are not all that comfortable as bedfellows either - there are some functions in each that conflict with the other - but it can be done if you approach it with caution, whereas the MenuControl and SecureFM plug-ins are not even on 'speaking terms'. gregincolumbus
Good point...I own Menu Control and love it...It is the only one I use for the functionality....so I was not aware of the conflict between the two but it does make sense they are fighting over the same "turf"
Robbydobbs
Can SecureFM allow you to create keyboard shortcuts like MenuControl does?

No, not with SecureFM on its own, but in conjunction with the add-on 'MenuMagic' (also from NMC) you can. gregincolumbus
Just discovered Dacons Menu Control is NOT compatible with Panther.....was informed by tech support that an update will be made available as soon as possible.
CG Software LLC
What happens with MenuControl on Panther? Do the custom menus simply not load, or does the application crash? Best regards, Thomas
gregincolumbus
The menus load but then gray out when I roll over them.....I am confident that an update is imminent for panther and menu control.....???
