Hi All!

I'm sure this has been discussed several times already. However, I MUST post my issue.

Situation :

I have a database to build. I need to find a way to protect the design of this database. I've already gotten past the "Custom Layout" portion. Now It's time for user security. This company is going to have an administrator that will manage this database. The also want the ability to "Clone" these databases for other projects in the future.

Problem :

In order to create and change passwords in FileMaker Pro, you have to give "Full Access" to the database which makes all the design within the database fair game.

I'm also using the "Modification Log" method from our friends @ ClickWare which uses the "User Groups" to identify the person editing the record. Is there another way to capture that information maybe using a "Global" field? I get the feeling that I need to create a standalone "Security Database" or BUY one.

I really need help on this. I'm not going to call it unfortunate, but I'm the only FMP Developer here (job security grin.gif).

Any help would be EXTREMELY USEFUL!!!

Thank you all!

Well what EXACTLY are you looking for?

Are you looking for a solution where an administrator can change passwords without having full access? If so, I think that you are really looking for a login system, where all users have the same Filemaker password, but each has an individual password that is stored in another database and which is validated before they can access the systems.

That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Sorry I wasn't clear, but my brain has been racing all morning.

The client wants to be able to Add/Delete & Change Users & Passwords. Now this would be for SEVERAL databases. I can really care less how it get's done as long as it's User Friendly and simple to impliment.

I was going to build one myself, but If I don't have to reinvent the wheel, I won't.

Any suggestions?
