dilemma .. with limit on text field

Featured Replies

I have a printing dilemma. In my contact data there is the ambiguous notes field. The problem is at times we need to print full contact data including all history, which means I'd like all the data within the notes field to print. However it can at times be pages long and the field does not allow for this kind function ( b/c I can't predetermine how many pages it may be, and with the 65K limit it's very relative). what kind of field must I replace the existing "notes" field, so that when we go to print it will continue to print until the full contents of the notes field ( and of course whatever else is designated on the layout) to print?!?! TIA

You can't make fields expand; you can only make them shrink to fit. You just have to make the field extremely large, and then set it to shrink and reduce the enclosing part. Shrinking/sliding options are in the format menu.

I'm aware of the expandable field; is there not a better way, b/c there is no way to predetermine how many pages will ultimately be required for any given record?!! It does not seem practical to stretch a field over dozens of pages for a "just in case" situation.

The idea is that you make a separate print-layout anyway, so it's actually quite practical to have a long field on that layout.

The only way I can think of to predetermine the length of a layout is by starting with the really long layout forementioned and determine how many pages it is in Preview mode using the goto page [last] function.

You could then swith to the appropriate shorter layout, but I do not see what you gain by doin that.

Ernst.
