number of characters per value

Is there a limit to the number of characters each value in a value list can contain? The problem is my value list has fairly long chunks of text for each value. This does not fit easily on the screen. when I resize the field the text is clipped. By the way, the field is formatted to show all the values with check boxes.

I would GUESS that the whole value list would be limited to the max amt of characters a field can hold, which is like 64,000 i think.

My question would be why you have it set up like this?
