coverting this file to import easily into fp

Can someone give me a heads up on how to convert the attached records in fp fields under the respective catagory

Thanks for your help in advance

vhs.txt

the easiest way to import it is to convert it into a tab-seperated format. I think the easiest way is to cut and paste the data into a global text field, then run scripts on that field to perform the text conversions you want, then cut and paste back into a word processor, save it, and import it into filemaker as tab-separated. Because you have 164K characters, you'll have to do it in stages since that's more than the maximum number of characters for a text field.

First use Substitute to remove all the carriage returns and tabs, because they will separate fields and records, not format text. Then substitute again, this time a carriage return for *----* and a tab for each of your field titles. The biggest difficulty I see is that you have a web address inserted seemingly at random into the original text. It's not always in the description, sometimes it falls in the middle of the other fields, so it could be problematic.

Thanks for your response. I thought there might be a less labor intensive way using bbedit or something.

Thanks again
