Change printers and Trays

Featured Replies

Can anyone help. I am running windows and want to change printers within scripts. I have checked Afina and productive Computing but can not see a way on either to change the printer tray for each printer. Is there a way to do this? All help appreciated.

If you on windows you can try my plugin for the changing, bonus is its free. The link is at the top of the page at:

As far as changing trays one the same printer goes, what you probably want to try is change the printer tray and then going into the registry and check out the default printer string in the filemaker printer key and see what is different based on changing the tray. Use this info for your script.

Thanks for getting back to me Ryan. I have been trying to get to the bottom of this problem for a few days. But no one seems to have the answers. Is there a particular command that I should use in order to change the printers? Many thanks.

Mark

Before trying to use any plugin I would do it manually first. Go into regedit and go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareFileMakerFileMaker Pro5.0Preferences

(the 5.0 key depends on your version of filemaker)

The Printer key will tell you the exact string you should use for the current printer tray. Close regedit, then change the printer tray in filemaker using the print command. go back into regedit to the same key and see how it has changed. Using this info, you should be able to use the plugins to change your tray. I'm not positive on how the other change printer plugins work, but mine uses this exact regestry setting string.

Dear Ryan Costello, you've helped me enormously with this handy dandy script. I can advise it to everyone. It's supereasy en works great. Maybe one suggestion i can make, mayby you could explain it a bit more how to use the script. I have figured it out with trial and error, but it took me a whole hour to fing out. Anyway, when i figured it out you have made me very happy with this utility ! Keep up the good work !

Ryan's Website seems to have been hijacked. Any chance of forwarding the printer changer files direct to me?
