novtiger Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 I have been trying to print a layout that has a header footer and 8 pages of information. I originally started with linked word documents and when printed on page seven I would get BIG bold garbaled garbage. When I put the information directly into fm as text when I print the layout all I get on page 7 and 8 are the headers and footers but none of the body. Please Help it is driving me insane. If you look at the file, layout "Home Inspection Report" gets the garbage print, and "layout #23 copy" does not print pages 7 and 8. Thanks. Home inspection report Copy.zip
macguys Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 What OS is FMP deployed on? I printed layout #23 successfully from an iBook running the latest production version of FMP under OS X 12.6 on an Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS. I have other laser printers here, but I expect the results will be the same. I've seen a similar problem while attempting to print a large set of mailing labels on a dot matrix printer with a built in ethernet print server. After a lot of trying different combinations of things, we decided that the problem was in the print driver. The developer acknowledged the problem but offered no solutions. I'm assuming, because of the .zip file, that you're running some flavor of Windows. Can you successfully print a 10 page file from, say Microsoft Word to the same printer?
novtiger Posted September 1, 2003 Author Posted September 1, 2003 Thank you for your input. Yes, I can print multiple pages to my printer. I have tried an HP 8000n Laser, a HP 4550 Laser w/ps drivers, a HP 2100, a canon g50, and a HP Laserjet 6l. All with no success. The only difference may be that I am running windows xp, with version 5.5 of FM. Thanks.
BuddySystems Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Filemaker on Windows has always had issues with HP printers, for reasons I have never understood... Generally, you have to create separate "body" fields for each page, and paste the text in separately for each page. This makes it impossible to have text that automatically wraps from page to page, but is the only way I've found to do this.
novtiger Posted September 1, 2003 Author Posted September 1, 2003 I have heard of those issues also, but all the fields are on their own pages. Seperated by the page break. I wonder also, because I tried printing on a canon printer and have had the same issues. Thanks
BuddySystems Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 I downloaded your file and tried printing - in general it printed ok, except page 5 which had a bunch of strange large type text on it. One thing to try - make sure none of your items are near the page edge margins, and also I would try not having such large graphics as your "form" part, but try creating that using the text tool in Filemaker.
