Hi, there!

Can you tell if it's definitely a FileMaker error and not a Mac OS X error?

Try launching application directly w/no db and see if there's an error.

If successful launch, try making fresh db w/1 or 2 fields and save; then quit and double-click new db to launch FMP and load db.

If those work, try opening db from FMP Open... menu command.

I believe v5.5 has both a X install and a OS9 install. Make sure the client installed the correct type (though either should work) and is logged in as the appropriate user. OS X is very particular about ownership and file permission for Read/Write/Execute (Darwin UNIX based on BSD w/Apple parallel system). If it makes sense, install while logged in as the same user who will be using it.

Check to see if other X users can open it. If you sent/e-mailed the db to them, have them send it back to you so you can check to see if it corrupted or compressed or encoded wrong or something.

Hope this helps!
