Hello all.

I have a question concerning relationships. I have not done too much with the whole relationship area of filemaker. I have a relationship that LeRetta help me setup. I have a layout with a calculation field from the other database on it. Is there any way that I can have it automaticly refresh. At this point it will one refresh if you click in the field or switch to a different layout or something. Considering it is a merge field the user won't be allowed into the field .......... any help would be appreciated

Attached are the files ... the layout is "EnterStudents" and the field is "Info_Price" in the "DEV_Cadyware" file

Well this is one of the problems with Filemaker is refreshing these kinds of related fields. Honestly it is a small price to pay for dynamic data display.

One potential problem that I see is that it looks like DEV_Cadyware displays a calculate field from DEV_Package_Info which is calculated from fields in DEV_Cadyware. Since the record you are on in DEV_Cadyware is not comitted until you do something, those fields will not update until then. Add into this the normal portal refresh issues and you have a real problem.

I would just suggest adding some kind of procedure for switching layouts behind the scenes so that it will update for the user. Give them a button that says "Update Total". This can switch to another layout and back.
