Fast & gorgeous 3D text

Hi Forum,

One of FM's quirks has become a real asset to me. I thought others might be able to use it also.

I create my own labels, headings, etc. using 3D text (by stacking 3 texts).

FM has a nasty habit of changing labels which are generated when you insert a field onto a layout and have the box clicked that says 'Create Field Label' and you then change the field name in Define Fields!!!!

This used to *** me off ... now it tickles me to no end!

Create a blank db with only a blank form on it. Create a text field with the first label name you need. Place the field on a layout and let FM create its label for you. Copy the label two more times, stack, offset and then group them. Copy this 'final' perfect 3D text to your solution db.

Then ... go change the field name to the next text label you need and POOFFF! It automatically changes your 3D label for you - no more ungrouping and changing the text in all three! Copy this to your solution and repeat! If you need headings, just change your field name as above - then change the size of the resultant 3D text and everything will be consistent.

Oh, and no, I don't allow FM to create any labels for me anymore - because if I change the field name to make it easier for me, I don't like it changing the label (what a User sees). I always create my own labels unless I'm using it deliberately for the above purpose.

This method of auto-creating multiple labels is a real time-saver and produces beautiful, professional labels and headings in no time. smile.gif

What a great idea! Thanks LaRetta for the suggestion.
