Why not display the field on one layout and allow editing on another?

The users have become extreamly used to using Ctrl + F to do a find, so the fields that are allowed editing in browse mode, and the samd fields that are searchable in find mode. This field is used to perform finds constantly on many common layouts. I wish I could implement that approach without a user uproar. Thank you

I will never let users use FM commands. All users have in available menu commands set to NONE. Skilled users on manager level Editing Only.

We have choices as everybody else and we picked the most restricted settings. So we have zero problems, FM is used only as programming language and not as "free ride for all".
