Newbies onda Posted September 23, 2003 Newbies Posted September 23, 2003 I'm fairly new to FM. I've installed FM Pro 6 on the client and FM Server 5.5 on the server. Both are Mac machines. I think the server is in a good state (up and running). When I get on the client, I go "file, open remote". An empty box opens up - no choices. Does anyone have an idea where I should look for the problem? Thanks. [color:"green"]
Vaughan Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 FMP's Application preferences -- the network setting is not correct.
stanley Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Yes, you have to set to TCP/IP in preferences. Very occasionally you may need to jump-start the connection by typing in the actual IP address of the server - I have no idea why this happens when it does, but every now and then... Also make sure AppleTalk is off on the server, and that the server has a valid IP address. If none of this works, ping the server to make sure you're actually physically connected. -Stanley
Newbies onda Posted September 24, 2003 Author Newbies Posted September 24, 2003 Thank you Vaughan and Stanley. I will check all these tips out tomorrow at the office.
Anatoli Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Try also enter the IP of the server into "specify host"
Newbies onda Posted September 24, 2003 Author Newbies Posted September 24, 2003 I don't know why, but today when I started FM, and went to the Open Remote box, there was a place to select a host. So, I entered the IP address and voila! Thank you all! ONDA
