Hi all,

I got FMS 5 running on Windows 2000 Professional. Generally it's behaving well with small databases. I have one file that exceeds 16000 records, and FMS is breathtakingly slow with that one.

I tried to increase FMS process priority in Task Manager, but it did not allow the access. I'm logged in as admin of the machine. Any thoughts?

There is probably another problem.

FM server is handling 500,000+ records for 100 users without single problem in the same speed as file with 5 records.

How do you know it is the FMS?

Are you using calculations, which are running across many or all records? If yes, then this is the problem.

well, point is most of my files have calculations, summary fields, etc. They are not nearly as slow as the large file with 16000 records.

Even when I just sort the records in the large file it takes about 10 seconds.

Even if I go to the layout with no summary or calc fields on it, it's still very slow. Only with that large file.

We can only guess here.

My results for really huge file 2,000,000+ records on average W2000 machine with IDE disks are:

FM file with 2 022 990 records 733 MB

Index unindexed field: 4 min 20 sec.

Search on unindexed: 1 min 40 sec

Search on indexed: less than 1 second

Sort 100: less than 1 second

Sort 1000: less than 1 second

Sort 10 000: less than 1 second

Sort 100 000: 4 seconds

Sort 1 000 000: 44 seconds

Sort all of 2 022 990: 95 seconds

On FM server driven solutions those numbers will be decreased by 10-50% I guess.

Obviously
