November 27, 200025 yr Im trying to get FM5 to send out e-mails on our macs, mainly using outlook v4.5 and 5, but I'm having a bit of trouble!! I have tried with some sucess using the applescript version which someone posted here a while back, but unfortunately it keeps falling over for no good reason (I get a token error?) sometimes it works, sometimes it dont ? but it's not stable enough. heres the script "tell application ""Outlook Express""
November 27, 200025 yr Have you tried using the mail function built into FMP? I'm using it (4.1) with Outlook Express on a mac and it works fine.
November 27, 200025 yr Author yes I have, Ive set up two buttons to perform each kind of mail action, Im currently playing with the MAC's Internet file helpers bit to see if I can force it to play, but it's not going well
November 27, 200025 yr Author grrrr this thing is driving me up the wall ! the old applescript has now started working, (even though I havent changed it) but now won't put anything into the recipent address. Ive tried using the mailto command with open URL which will open outlook, and set the recipent address ok, is there anyway I can set the subject and message in the same way (preferably not using applescript)
November 28, 200025 yr The mailto link is actually quite flexible. There was a previous post that explained how to include subject and message information in a Mailto link as well as the address. Take a look at http://www.fmforums.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000079.html
November 28, 200025 yr For a nice integrated solution, you might want to try email plug-in's for FM. I've tried dbMailer on the Mac side (both SMTP & POP3) and it works great. I'm sure the PC plug-in's are equally good. This eliminates the need for an additional separate application. -bd
November 29, 200025 yr Author Thanks lads for the help, finally got it doing what it's supposed too, I found the calculation needed some tweaking and now looks like this. "mailto:" & main email address & Case(not IsEmpty(CC email address); "?cc=" & CC email address; "") & "?subject=" & subject & "?body=" & new body I found a difference between the US and UK versions of filemaker too, where US version uses , UK version needs ; but anyway it all works on Mac's and PC's regardless of e-mail client. Joy
November 29, 200025 yr Here's a goofd trick: open a databse created in US version in the UK version. The calculations will be comma delimited, but if you try to edit one it'll complain!
