Value list incompatible with number key pad

I have a strange problem. My client has a filemaker database that filters a value list (materials list) by the type of job selected. The materials are kept in a seperate file. The relationship is working fine except when you tab into the material list field and type in a numberic sequence of a material item number on the 10-key pad, it goes directly to the end of the list. However, if you use the number keys on the main keyboard (horizontally accross), it will go directly to the material item number.

Any ideas?

NumLock is ON. :-) The NumberKeys in the 10-key work fine in a text field except in the value list.
