Calculating a class average of percents.

I wish to be able to calculate a class average for percent attendance in a subsummary part, where I sort by class. The students do not all have the same number of days possible in a month. A summary field that gives me an average of student averages is not accurate because some students register or leave during each month. I can use a calculation field but only if I do my report manually, class by class. I wish to do the entire school, with each calculated class attendance automatically done. (The calculation field will calculate the school attendance properly but will not calculate individual classes that the report generates when I sort by class.) Any Suggestions?

If you have a student file in addition to your attendance file (related by student number)and add a file in which a record is a student/month, you could use relationships to generate a percent attendance in the student/month file. A field in the student/month file would hold the possible days for each student so that the percentage would be accurate. A relationship between the student/month file and the student file would allow an average to be calculated for each student. Then (whew!) an overall average can be calculated in a summary part in the Student file using two summary field: one a summary(Total of percent) and one a summary(Count of percent) and a GetSummary[] function. -bd
