Populating a CDML valuelist from relationship

I'm trying to create some value lists for a web page. I want these lists to be populated from existing value lists in my database. The lists all work perfectly in the database, but not all work on the web page. The ones that don't work are the ones whose source is "From Relationship"

I thought it might be because the field used in the relationship wasn't on the layout I was using, so I added it but that didn't fix it.

Is it possible to use value lists that are created from relationships on a CDML webpage? If yes, any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Conditional value lists don't work through the web interface. There may be ways around it usingCDML Inlines.
