list realtionship problem

I am trying to do a lookup using a seperate FMP file. I want to be able to lookup cities in alphabetical order. I would like to enter the "city" field and have a list to choose from, "city list"..

I create the relationship from "city" in file 1 to "city" in file 2. I then select "auto enter" in the "options for field" I specify the following:

relationship is selected (its the only one)

it states the correct match

I select city in the "child" field

When I click ok, I get - This lookup uses the field "city" in its definition. Choose another field

I have used differnt names and I get the same response.

What am I doing wrong. I do not want to use a value list.

I want the States to be in Alpha order

I think you need a value list instead of the lookup.
