dkemme Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 I have a 19 file solution that I have been running successfully for 10 years, till now. Two of the files open very slowly (15 seconds), and even more slowly the further away from the server the terminal machine resides (10 minutes). The two files are the largest files in size, but not records, and both have many PICTS in containers. The server is a G4 733 OSX running FMS 5.5 v4. To make sure it was not a problem with the machine I moved the files to our backup server, G4 500DP OSX and same result with FMS 5.5 v1 and v4. The fact that the opening was much longer at machines further away made me wonder if due to our firewall, but the slow opening has been seen with our network disconnected from the firewall. I performed a recovery on the two slow opening files and errors were found. I have made sure the problem is not in the startup scripts by running the startup script with the files already opened and no delays were seen. The solution is running well, just very slow startup times. Any suggestions? TIA

dkemme Posted February 2, 2004 Author Posted February 2, 2004 Even though the recovery notes no corruption? Any suggestions on finding/correcting the corruptions?
stanley Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Recovery tends to leave you with an unstable product. Once you've recovered the files, you really should export them to a clone of the db - I keep empty clones of all my clients' solutions for just this purpose. The data might be fine, but the file itself has some tiny corruption... -Stanley
dkemme Posted February 3, 2004 Author Posted February 3, 2004 Thanks. I am now loading the backed up files trying to find one that does not seem corrupt. I will then create a clone of that file, import present data and then update any changes made since. Luckily we haven't had too many changes.
