Totals from portals questions

Newbies

I am new to "relationalizing" long used Filemaker files v5.5. I have 2 questions. First is baffling me but probably a simple oversight

I have "Ship Tickets" and "Ship Tickets line item" files related by "TicketNumber".

The portals in "Ship Tickets" display correctly but when i attempt to total "Shipped Quantity" using "QuantityShippedTotal"=Sum(BZ_ShipTicketLine Item|TicketNumber|BZ_shipTicket::QuantityShipped) in "Ship Ticket" file it only totals the first portal row.

I have what i thought was the identical type of set up- fields, relationships, formatting etc in a "Contract" and "Contract line items" files and the totaling works perfectly

I've tried every variation and gone over and ove rmatching what works in my "Contracts" files but i can't get it to total anything but the first portal

Second question.

In these files I have a field called "TypeofSale" which is a popup value list with 6 choices of type of sale. (Once i get the totaling working) how can i display separate totals for each type of sale on the "Ship Ticket" or "Contract" or "Invoice" when there is more than one type. I tried some If staements but couldn't make it work.
