Find results in more records than contained in fil

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been using FMPro for many years but have never come across this.

I have a file converted from 4 to version6.

It contains518 records all of which have the same year. One of the fields contains the year.If I search based on the year i get 1151 records and they are all displayed in a list view!!

If I search on any other field i get what i expect.

Any thoughts anyone?

That wasn't a typo was it? Your list view is actually displaying more records than you should have in the file? If so, it looks like there were some deleted records that were never physically removed, and the index has become corrupted. I would try saving the old file as a compressed file before converting it to version 6. If that doesn't work, then try to recover the file before converting it.

Hi Bob

Thanks.

No, no typo!

I'd already solved the problem by doing just as you suggest. I was just interested to find out if anyone else had ever come accross this and if they knew what might have caused it - it's such a strange phenomenon.

I don't ever recall having a find produce more records than are supposed to exist, but I've definitely had finds produce obviously wrong results. Whenever that happens (assuming I didn't make some other mistake), it's a sure sign the index is corrupt.

i think that's the top and bottom of it.

Thanks for your interest and response, Bob.

All the best
