Minimum Size field while using sliding/printing?

On one of my forms I'm using sliding/printing to reduce the size of the enclosed part, but I don't want it to disappear completely if there is nothing filled in. I'd still like a box there, otherwise the printout looks very odd.

I tried putting the same field behind the one that encloses the unused part, but it doesn't show up when I print. Any ideas?

Overlay a text block made of spaces with the minimum dimensions you want if the field ends up empty.
