file created on Win XP won't open on Mac OS 9.1

Featured Replies

I created a file at home over the weekend on my new Windows XP machine. I emailed it to work and now at work my Mac OS 9.1 machine won't recognize or open the file. Both are using FM 6.0 Client. I am faced with recreating about 5 hours worth of work. Anybody have any ideas why this is happening and if I can solve the glitch?

Hi,

Does your file contain any images?

Do you have the lastest updates for FM on both machines?

Do other FM files open OK on your Mac?

Regards

Ed.

Hi, JM! If EddyB's q's dont' help you solve your problem, maybe look at your e-mail. MIME stuff can get messed up sometimes if one or the other is not MIME compatible. Maybe you should try another medium, disk/cd/ftp. It may not have anything to do/w FileMaker. As far as I know, Mac/Win file formats should be compatible.

Did you try the Open File dialog from within FM? Go File/Open and then Show: All Available. Locate the file, open and what happens? Does the file just not open? Do you get an error message?

I have the same problem, I get an error message along the lines of 'don not have the file translaters to open this file'. Spoke to F/M support but got no where. Up graded to V6.0.4 this seemed to work, but when we open a file 'Filemaker Pro.old' appears in the right top corner of the screen. Ant help would be much appreciated
