Newbies Dave_Merwin Posted February 21, 2004 Newbies Posted February 21, 2004 What are they? Unique id? What is a left hand key, a right hand key? Where are my keys? Any advise would be great.
kenneth2k1 Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 If you are speaking of relationships, then 'keys' are the fields that make the relationship work. The said field in the main file is called the primary key. The field in the "child" file is called a secondary key. In FileMaker, the define relationships dialog will show two lists of fields. The list on the left shows the fields in the current file. The fields in the right list shows the fields in the file you want to relate to. Choose a field in each list. These fields are your keys. If you enter the SAME data in these fields in each file, the records will then be related.
