Layout Pop-Up menu or List Displayed

Looking for the reason why that on some PC's the layout pop-up menu (the one directly above the flip book) opens in a columnar fashion and others open with a scroll interface. Is there a registry setting that might be ammended?

I asked this same question in the "Right Brain" forum, thread title "layout pop-up menu in status area". I got some good suggestions, but ultimately I couldn't change the way it worked on my PC (Win2K Prof).
