Rename relational database files

Featured Replies

I want to archive a Filemaker Pro relational database that consists of 8 files. I need to rename the files so that they are different from the "live" files. Is there a way that I can rename the files but don't have to reestablish the relationships, and fix the scripts one by one? Your help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, welcome to the forum.

This can be done using the FileMaker Developer application if you have access to this.

Thanks Ed for your help! I was amazed by how fast I received response to my question in this forum ;-) I only have FileMaker Pro 5.5. If File Maker Developer application is a plug-in or upgrade, I don't think I'm resourced to have access to it frown.gif but I will keep your answer in my mind. Thanks again.

Hi:

Developer is a product of FileMaker. You would have to buy it. Or find someone that has it.

I have Developer 5.5. If you wanted to, you can send them to me and I can change the file names. Of course that would mean that I would get a look at your files. If that would violate your software agreements or anything, then you probably don't wanna do it.

You can do it by keeping the same file names, but putting them in a different directory (folder). Filemaker will use relative file paths to find related files. So, the relationships should stay intact.
