need help with find script

Hi, I am new to Filemaker. I am using it just as a hobby, and although i am risking to be called an idiot, i would like to ask a simple question smile.gif I am making a dbase for an old dos game collection i have and would like to have a find script where someone can find a title, developer, publisher, year and genre. So someone types let's say "Doom" and it takes you to another layout where you can click on the name, or button, and it takes you to the layout with the game. Or someone types the year '1992' and it take you to all the games made in 1992. Of course the same goes for 'developer' etc.

I tried everything with the help function, but i just cannot get it get to work.

I attached the FM file with this post. Can someone take a look at it and help me on my way ? If you want you can make an example in the file. The file is made in FM 6. Any help would be much appreciated ! smile.gif

Not everything works in the file, i am just beginning with it.

Best regards,

Maarten

Hi Maarten,

I'll download the file and have a look for you.

Ed

P.S no-on here would call you an idiot - it's only simple when you know the answer smile.gif

Hi Maarten,

I have enclosed your file with a couple of amendments.

I have added a button on your main menu (Find Game) and also attached the new script to the find button in your list view.

I have created the script GoToFind - please note this is the most basic find script that could be created just to get you started.

You can add features such as checking for a find result where there are no records matched and decide what you want to do in this case.

Anyway have a look and a play with it, I hope I've give you enough to get started.

Any questions give us a shout.

Best regards

ed

this is ....Articles forum...

Hi Maarten ...

Welcome to the Forums!

As Leb has pointed out, this is the "Articles" area of the Forums. People use this area to post instructional and informational articles they've written about FileMaker.

There are a number of sub-topic areas here on the Forums. It would have been better to post your question in the "Finding & Searching" area. But, don't worry about it smile.gif You'll eventually get the hang of this place.

Hope you keep coming back and keep posting smile.gif
