If I have a field with some copy in it, can I get a url embedded it so when the field is displayed in a browser the will be a link?

This is only possible with Custom Web Publishing, not Instant. You'll have to type the HTML codes into the text, then tell WC to send it to the browser raw (not pre-process it)

This means, however, that all the formatting (including returns) will need to be encoded in HTML.
