Server won't serve a file, log unhelpful

Featured Replies

All of a sudden my FM Server 5.5 has stopped serving my main database. All the other databases open automatically as the main one used to, but this one won't, on startup, or through manual selection.

I checked the log file, which instructs me to open it in FileMaker Pro first. I have done this, both on the server and from another computer on the LAN (which is running Mac OS 9), but still server won't open this file.

I have also run a recover on the file and server won't open the recovered file either.

Any suggestions anyone?

Version: Server v5

Platform: Mac OS X Panther

Well, I seem to have fixed it now. Although I'm sure I tried exactly the same thing about 3 hours ago and it didn't work, ho hum.

I recovered the file, then openned that in FMPro, closed it and then opened it in Server. All seems to be working, haven't checked the data yet, just not in the mood now.

Great to hear you are back up and running, but be careful with the file that required recovering! Did you use the files that were being served at the time of crash or use a set of backups? Any file open at the time of the crash is subject to corruption so I would try to use a set of backups instead. What verson of Server are you using, make sure it is 5.5 v4 as previoius versions were buggy.
