We have two Macs on a network and a multi-file FM solution. When opening files remotely (as a guest of the Host computer), some files are opening quickly, showing the IP address of the Host and others are very slow to open, showing the Host computer name.

I can't tell why some are opening differently than others.

Those connecting through the host computer's name need to first perform a DNS lookup, while those connecting through the IP number can go direct.

It may have been the way the files were connected to when relationships etc were set up.

Does anyone have suggestions for how I can correct this?

I've found that it's best to open all the files single-user and remap relationships and script calls, unless there is a designated host, in which case remapping them by specific ip might be better.

This issue was resolved when we upgraded both machines to Panther and FM6. It seems to have been a networking issue related to running different operating systems.
