JoanieAKBoat
I've been serving a multiuser file in-house with 6 users for years now. No problems. As we upgrade to FMP 7, I'm wondering if I should invest in FMP 7.0 Server, but don't know the advantages. We're not publishing the files. I guess my question is - what is the difference in a mult-user file and a served file? tks Version: v6.x Platform: Mac OS X Jaguar
Reed
You won't be able to serve six simultaneous users with FM7 (Unless you count the host) since it's hard coded to reject the sixth guest.... I tested this myself. It kind of seems like a rip that you have to shell out $999.00 to add one more user. I guess you get other advantages, like automatic scheduled backups, and remote admin etc......
dkemme
The other advantages of the server are crucial in a shared database. Sharing with FMS is much more stable, quicker and the backup feature can truly save your data. Won't be ready till summertime though so be patient. For Reed: Where did you get a copy of FMS v7 to test this? Can I have one to play with too?
Reed
I didn't get a copy of FMS, I was testing the 5 client limit of FMP not server
