Is is possible to execute a script each time an existing record is viewed? ( I want to change the layout depending on the contents of a record)

Yes, but it means taking control of the user interface and scripting the record browsing environment. This usually requires hiding and locking the status area and providing other buttons (and scripts) to perform these tasks.

So for instance the "Got to Next Record" button would run a script that would go to the next record and change layouts depending on some condition.

That is how I have it now, but I was hoping to leave the status bar up and just clicking through the little book icon would trigger it.
