Where's my Sticky Portals I was Promissed?

Featured Replies

I thought FM7 said that when you browse through a portal and then click out that it wouldn't jump back up to the top, it was supposed to leave the portal where you scrolled it to.

Am I doing something wrong here? The one's I've tried it on so far aren't sorted portals or sorted relationships...

FileMaker Version: 7

Platform: Windows XP

Go to layout mode, into 'Layout Setup' from the menu and uncheck the option 'show field frames'.

That's the trigger to make portals stick. Remember that the portals will still pop if you change records, so you might have to be careful in your scripting to conserve the portal position. You can make it work by storing the portal row # in a global then go back to the portal row after changing records. Do an empty 'go to field' at the end of your navigation script. Without that last step the portal will still pop.

Ah ha.... thanks!

I guess I ought to read the manual!

remember that a global variable won't correctly handle the situation where the user has opened two windows on to the same database, and the portals in each window are displaying different data.
