hociman Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 My setup is as follows: FMP Server v5.5 running on OS X v10.3.3 (G4 tower) FMP Client v6 running on OS X v10.3.3 (2 iBooks and 1 iMac) My problem: When trying to open a file with FMP Client v6 being served by FMP Server v5.5, I get unexpected quits. The crashlog file generated says that a "EXC_BAD_ADDRESS" AND "KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE" has occurred. If I open this same file directly with FMP Client v6, it opens properly. If anyone has any insight into this problem, it would be appreciated. FileMaker Version: 6 Platform: Mac OS X Panther
Vaughan Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 Make sure you're using FM Server 5.5v4. The update is on the FMI web site. Clents should be using FMP 6.0v4
hociman Posted April 10, 2004 Author Posted April 10, 2004 That's what I'm using. Any other suggestions?
dkemme Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 Have you tried reinstalling FM Server with appropriate updates? How are you opening the file from the computer running FMP v6? Specifically, are you starting FMP and then opening the file via the host file button, or are you trying to open directly from a shared folder to the machine running FM Server?
hociman Posted April 12, 2004 Author Posted April 12, 2004 I installed server v5.5 and then updated it to 5.5v4. I'm guessing that's what you mean by appropriate updates. Correct me if I'm wrong. I am starting FMP and then opening the file via the host file button.
hociman Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 Ok. I have this setup working now. Here's what I did: Repaired disc permissions on the server. Reinstalled FMS 5.5v4 onto the System hard disk (previously it was on another partition). Now everything is working. Could it be that FMS cannot be installed on a partition other than the OS X startup partition? FileMaker Version: 6 Platform: Mac OS X Panther
