Is there a way to show the sort order on a layout without having to type it in before I print?

If you are talking about somehow 'copying' the information from the sort dialog box, I think you are SOL. Here is how I did it.

Do all of your sorts from scripts, the script does the sort, and sets a global field to the definition of the sort.

Then put the global on the layout that prints out.

I hope this helps. It acually is a bit of work since you have to think about all the realistic ways to sort your data. But it is very polished.
