my client is a slow typer and needs to make selections from longs lists in several pop-up lists. she wants the list to jump to 'Connor' so she presses 'c' then 'o', but the time she takes to do it means Filemaker jumps from Callaway (the first name that begins with C) to O'Brian (the first name begging with O). Is there any way to set the program to 'wait' longer?

Probably not.

However, rather than use a pop-up list you could consider using a type-ahead system: the user types some letters into a global field and all the matches are displayed in a portal. Click on the portal row to enter the value.

possible, but it would be very awkward given the context of the layout. hmmm. just got my Filemaker 7 Developer in the mail so I'll see if there might be some other solution. thanks
