Is there any way to trigger a script to start running based on the value in a field?

What I would like to do is have a script start when a specific value is selected from a Value List. When the script is complete the Value would be changed. [color:"black"]

Yes, look here for one possibility. You'll have to disable entry to the field and set it as a button attached to the necessary script.
