Sorry, but your question is the same kind of thing. Both have advantages and disadvantages in various situations and I have seen as many arguements for as against, each one.

I like the Replace option because it is SIMPLE. One step. The set field requires a loop, so you are looking at somewhere along the lines of 5 steps to accomplish the same thing.

Start with Replace, if you think that the performance is unacceptable, then try the Set Field approach.
