vasilek
Hello. What is the difference between FMS 5 and FMS 5.5. Is there FMS 6. Also is FMS 5 good for serving files created in FMP6? Thank you.
stanley
Vasilek: There is no FMS 5.5, nor is there a FMS 6; there is only FMS 5 (although FMI has since done away with the number, and call it simply "FileMaker Server," to avoid confusion. Obviously, they've failed on that count.) You can use FMS 5 to host databases created in 5, 5.5 and 6, because the file format is unchanged. Likewise, you can edit a FMP 6 file in FMP 5 or 5.5 (and vice-versa.) -Stanley
vasilek
Likewise, you can edit a FMP 6 file in FMP 5 or 5.5 (and vice-versa.) To comment on that. I had problem with displaying Custom Messages in FMP5.5 when created in FMP6.
-Queue-
Custom Dialogs don't exist in 5.0 or 5.5 client versions. They were introduced in 6.
stanley
Naturally, you're both right. I should have qualified "you can edit a FMP 6 file in FMP 5 or 5.5 (and vice-versa.)" with "for the most part." I didn't mean to imply that they were 100% interchangable, but that the file format was the same, which is why FMS stopped at 5. -Stanley
vasilek
...so it safe to run files created in FM6 from FMS5, right? Just reassuring once more. The box reads FileMaker Server 5 - it is from the old inventory supply. Thanks.
