July 28, 200124 yr I want to find and replace some double quotation marks in a text field. I can't use the substitute function to get rid of them because it gives an error, it won't find the " character. Substitute(myfield,""", "") Is there a way?
July 28, 200124 yr This is an interesting one! First a definition: Smart quotes are an option in the Preferences menu for the Document. When using Smart Quotes, FM inserts different characters for the normal quotes, such that the opening and closing quotes are really different characters from each other and from the non-smart quote character. One slants to the right and the other to the left. Non-smart quote marks are straight up and down. Two cases: 1) If the quotes are not smart quotes, use Substitute(myfield,"""", ""). Note four quote symbols in a row. 2) If the quotes are smart quotes (different open and closed), use two substitute functions and cut and paste to make the inner two quote symbols in the substitute function either the right or left smart quote characters. -bd
