Unlimited services stay offline after FMS backup..

Didn't know if it was best to post this here or in the Unlimited forum, so I tried both.

I have FM Server running on a OSX box. I have FM Unlimited running on a PC that serves up some of the files from the FM Server.

FM Server is set to automatically backup the files each night at 10:00. When it does this the PC unlimited access is paused while the backup occurs. It seems that occassionaly after the backup is complete something happens and the PC unlimited does not come back online. When I come in in the morning I have to go and quit Unlimited on the PC and then relaunch it to make the services available again.

Is there anyway to stop this from happening? I guess the easiest way would to find a way to automate FM Unlimited on the PC to quit at 9:59 PM and then to automatically relaunch at 10:02 PM. If I was running Unlimited on a OSX machine I would do this with Applescript. Anyone know how to do this with a Win 2000 server?

Couple of different approaches. The nicest is the AppleScript equivalent on Windows: VBscript. Check out "activeX" in the filemaker help file.

Another approach is to use a simple FM file with just one script (quit application) set to run onOpen and schedule that file using the Windows Scheduler. Schedule another FM file to open the solution again.

Thanks for the tip. I was already using a FM file with a script to open all my files, so it was easy to create another file with the Quit script. I have added it to Windows Task Scheduler. It will run the quit FM file just before FMS runs the backup, and it will run the FM open files just after FMS runs its backup.

Hopefully this will solve it. Thanks.

Just a thought: is FM Server configured to disconnect idle guests?
