Newbies Terry Melancon Posted May 26, 2004 Newbies Posted May 26, 2004 Ok, this might not come out the way I mean to say it, but bear with me and PLEASE reply if you are even close to knowing what I'm talking about. I'm totally lost with this right now. SO, what I want to do is in an invoice "description" field; I want to display 1 or more than one description line, depending on the amount of text in the field. Example: Sku: Description: Etc: 123 3' Poles blah blah blah 213 Custom item with blabidy blah blah multiple lines 321 Item no. 3 more blah blah Under Sku: "213" I have a return with the amount of text having more than normal so it's got a paragraph return. The other items are remaining at only 1 line. In the original entry field I have larger spaces for multiple lines of text but on the final display and print it will eliminate the extra box spaces. This is the problem I'm having, the final display and print document. Please reply if you get what I'm saying at all, or ask if you are confused but think you get it. Thank you SOOO much!
ernst Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Hi Terry, Welcome to the forum! To avoid the extra spaces when printing or previewing your document have a look at the the "Sliding/Printing" in the "Format" menu. This works very well when you print your document in list mode. If your document is printed from a layout with a portal you will need to re-write your printing script to jump to the database that your document-lines are in and then print them as list. Hope this helps, Ernst.
Newbies Terry Melancon Posted May 27, 2004 Author Newbies Posted May 27, 2004 Ernst, Sliding printing is not what I want exactly. What I'm looking for is to have the data printed "as formated" in the field. If I put in returns or spaces to say... center the text or have a line break in the text I want that to print. Let me try another example: Invoice entry: ________________________________________________________________ |Sku #1 | Text for item 1.. | $price | qty | total | | | | | | | | | | | | | ------------------------------------------------------- |Sku #2 | Text for item 2 with multiple | $price | qty | total | | | lines of text for desc. | | | | | | | | | | ------------------------------------------------------- |Sku #3 | Text for item 3 | $price | qty | total | | | | | | | | | | | | | -------------------------------------------------------- Print page should look like (no spaces between each sku'ed item like in the entry boxes): ________________________________________________________________ |Sku #1 | Text for item 1..(one line) | $price | qty | total | |Sku #2 | Text for item 2 with multiple | $price | qty | total | | | lines of text for desc. | | | | |Sku #3 | Text for item 3 (one line) | $price | qty | total | -------------------------------------------------------- This is what I want. If you know what I'm saying now, and can help me out, I thank you in advance! -Terry
Newbies Terry Melancon Posted May 27, 2004 Author Newbies Posted May 27, 2004 that came out all messed up, but I hope you can get the gist of what I'm saying. There should be large areas to enter text on the invoice entry and no spaces on the print screen.. I can email screen shots if it would help.
Oldfogey Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 If that's in a portal, I don't think you can do it. (Actually, I know you can't but someone probably knows a cunning trick to do it.) You really need to go to your line item file and print from there, using a large (multi-line) field for the text.
