May 26, 200421 yr I need help again from you experts out there!!! .. I need to print a report with data gather from a data entry layout....I need to sort the information depending on the contents of a field selected in the data entry layout. i.e: items to be sold: 1- computer apple 2.- computer ibm 3.- printer laser 4.- scanner twain 5.- printer jet 6.- computer pc 7.- scanner other (selecting scanner, computer, printer from 1 pop-up list, and apple, ibm, etc... from another related pop-up list. Each new item is enter into a portal row created using a add portal row script from with a relationship with data from other database I need it to print as following: items to be sold: computer apple computer pc computer ibm scanner twain scanner other printer laser printer jet (grouping them by category....) I tried creting different portals in the reports page for each category (... if category="computer" display info) and then setting it to slide during printing if the rows were empty but it didn't work I also tried using the value list item function as it was suggested to me for another similar problem, but it doesn't work because I can not create a value list with the respective description because it says one of the fields can not be indexed because it is related .... i really can not think of anything else to try.... (and my boss is getting impacient for the reports.....) any ideas?:
May 26, 200421 yr From what you show above it's just a sort by Category in the line items file (where the portal is pointing to; almost always print from the line items file). I don't know what you mean by "group them by category." If you put a Subsummary Part on the layout, with the break field Category, then Sort by Category, it will be grouped, with the individual entries in the Body part, when viewed in Preview mode or printed (Subsummaries are not visible in Browse mode). Is that what you mean? It would produce a report sort of like this (the indentation is optional; you can move the fields side to side easily, but not so easily up and down, as they are inside of their own Part; though there are tricks to do so.)
