elvis_impersonating_penguin Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 yeah.. i've run into this before, so I know that it is something that filemaker doesn't let you do, but I am hoping someone may have a workaround... I want to interact with a global field in a header while in a list view. basically what i want is to have a field at the top of my list view, that the user can type into and hit a "find" button and it will then run a script that does a find. Kind of like a quick find thing. The only problem is, I can't interact with fields in the header, so the user can't type into it... I am using Filmaker 6
dbruggmann Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 With an additional file you could build a Pop-Up-Solution: a little window, that opens with just the global field and two buttons ("Find" and "Cancel"). You can find a good sample for this at Excelisys: http://www.excelisys.com/services/fmp7/articles.htm (at the bottom)
elvis_impersonating_penguin Posted May 28, 2004 Author Posted May 28, 2004 thanks for the reply. i ended up going a different way though. since I really really wanted them on the same layout, instead of doing a list view, I made a portal, and did kind of a portal filtering thing. it works for what i need to do. thanks again, Rick
bruceR Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 You could use Display Custom Dialog and let them enter the info there.
