Need to auto copy from 1table to another for label

Hi,

Hi I need to print some labels from information in my main table, database.

I thought one idea would be to auto copy some fields when entered in table 1 to relating fields in table 2.

Is this the best way?

The labes need to be a specific size and I only want a few fields from the main entries.

I hope this makes sense, Badly need help as it is for work.

P.s - I am fairly new so please be indepth.

Thanks very much, really appreciated.

Hi Kris, and welcome to the forums! Can you explain why you can't print the labels directly from table 1? You could set up a relationship between table 1 and table 2 to make all the desired fields available on one layout.

That would be great if I could do that but I am not sure how, Could you please explain

Thanks

Access the FileMaker help menu and look up "Relationships." Better yet, read the manual. Explaining relationships is far beyond the scope of this online forum.

Kris:

In your current table, enter Layout mode and go to Layouts-->New Layout/Report. In the dialogs that follow, pick the "labels" type, add the fields you want to print, and it will take you most of the way there. There should be a brief description of this in the documentation, whether in the tutorial or the manual or the Help system...

Anyway, once you've set up the Labels layout, you can perform a find (if need be) to select what records you want to print, then switch to your Labels layout & enter Preview mode to see that the records are going to print correctly, then print away...

Stanley, you might also note that when you select fields in the 'Layout' definition you can select from RELATED files and choose those other fields.

It pays to watch the user interface and explore your options.

When you see a file name in a 'pull down' check to see what else is available wink.gif

(I'm reminded of several stories where users such as Kai, of Photoshop fame, found hidden 'features' Adobe didn't even know existed simply because he was exploring the interface in new ways.)
