Can I automate the production of a runtime?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a really large file that I need to break down into literally hundreds of little databases. I would really like to automate this:

1.

I would like to automate the finding of a zip code

2.

make a file into a developer version named that "zip code"

3.

Make it automatically cross platform.

Is this possible with the developer version on a mac under panther?

Thanks

STan

Runtimes can only be created for the platform FM Dev is currently running under. So to make a Win runtime you'll need to run FM Dev on a PC (or use VirtualPC).

One other note - the developer version INCLUDES a dual platform installer. So yes, you just need access to a Win 2000 or XP machine and you can then first install developer and then create your runtime to distribute. I do this all the time and it works grat. Just delete Developer when you are done (If it's not your machine). I love developing on my G5 but most of my customers are PC. Also, if you need Win 95-98 or Win ME then you'll have to use Developer 5.5 and recreate your file in that version. I usually determine my customer's needs (platform) up front and that determines either 5.5 or 7.
