I am working on something for the woman who takes care of time cards for the Dept. Staff will need to turn in a Time sheet (monthly tally) at the end of the month (new to them).

I decided to digitize thier time cards(Time sheet), and I was hoping that I could have certain information transfer from each card, as they filled it out or printed it, to the same are of the time sheet. Then at the end of the month be able to calculate the info on the time steet, and turn it in...

I need help in getting the info from the card to the boxes on the sheet. I am very new to this, and plain english would be great:)

Thanks very much!!!!!!

Hi Phil, and welcome to FM Forums! In order for us to give you an explanation of how to do this, you should be more specific. Namely, it's unclear why typing the data in is not sufficient.

Where do they enter the time cards? In Filemaker Pro?

What are you trying to do with the inputted data?

Are you trying to use a scanner to get these time cards in?

Tahnks Quin:)

I am trying to do it all with FM. Two documents:

The time card: The information is entered here, printed and signed by a supervisor.

The Time sheet: I want the info from the time card to transfer here when they print out the card. This will then be printed at the end of the month signed by the employee, and turned in. This one will have to take hours from each card and place them in order, then caluculate them...

How do I add these as an attachment, so that you folks can see what I have so far?

Thanks again:)

OK, i think i get it.

It sounds like you want to establish a relationship between the Employees (time sheets) file and the Time Cards file. Give each employee a unique ID number, preferably from the auto-enter serial number option in field definitions, and relate the two files based on that. Make sure the relationship is set to allow creation of related records. Then put a portal on your layout in the Employees file and you're good to go.

Admittedly that's a lot to take in at once. Good idea to attach your files here and let us take a look at them. To attach files, add all the pertinent FM files to a zip file. If you are doing a Quick Reply, make sure you click the "Preview Reply" button instead of "Continue" and you will see an option to attach files.

Take a look at the attached.

1. Lose the "Time2", "time3", ... "Hours2", "Hours3" ... fields from Monthly Tally and call this file Days.

2. Play around with the portal in Time Cards.

This should give you a clearer idea of how a relational structure might help you. BTW, i'd be pissed at you if i was Wayne or Gilbert... i recommend you edit your last post to remove the file, so as to remove certain information that i shouldn't have....

Let us know if you have further questions.

"Portals" I remember when someone metioned "Scripts":) I knew I was in for some research... Thank you for the help:) I see I am in for a learning experience.

I deleted the attachment... Thought when I took out the script that listed them the rest would fall into place...

Thanks

Phil
