Erikj Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 I'm having a problem creating a script that would insert a value from a value list to multiple records. If anyone has a good idea it would be really appriciated Thanks
-Queue- Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Which item of the value list do you want inserted? How many records should be modified? What's the purpose of the function? There isn't much for us to go on here.
Erikj Posted June 9, 2004 Author Posted June 9, 2004 The values are yes and no in a drop down list. Their are about 38,000 records which must be marked yes. I am new to writing scripts so any info would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.
ESpringer Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Do you need to do this often, or just once? If just once, and if you can just manage to make exactly the right set of records SHOW (by using a complex find request or whatever), maybe it's as simple as a "Replace Field Contents..." command. Mark "yes" in one record, then (without leaving the field) choose "Replace Field Contents" (under Records menu).
ESpringer Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Oh -- always make sure to have a good backup archive before performing any "replace contents" command -- in case you choose the wrong field by accident or otherwise overwrite thousands of fields' worth of data in some way other than intended!
-Queue- Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Elise, I apologize if I've ever referred to you as 'he'. I always assumed you were male. It isn't quite obvious from your picture, although if I tilt my head a bit, it does seem to help a little.
ESpringer Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Hehe. Well, it's not a big issue, Queue! Obviously, if it were the most important thing in the world to me, I'd overcome my visceral aversion to putting on makeup and wearing high heels.
-Queue- Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 I know the feeling. High heels don't bother me, but I can't tolerate wearing makeup, unless it's for the theatre, of course.
