"non american" date format

is there a way to format a date field as a "non american" format

i.e. 25.12.2004

Right-click on the date field in Layout Mode and select Date Format. You can display it in several different formats, including with period separators. Note, however, that this will not change the actual data in the field, only how it's presented.
