I have a vendor file and I want to do the following:

1. The value list is tied to the vendor name field.

2. scroll to the vendor I want.

3. Vendor data to open in the layout boxes.

Sounds simple, but I cant make it work.

TIA

Hi Ivan,

We need a bit more information than this, I'm afraid ...

1. The value list is tied to the vendor name field.

2. scroll to the vendor I want.

3. Vendor data to open in the layout boxes.

Because, if you are in your Vendor file now, the existing Vendor data would display in the 'layout boxes' (I assume you mean Vendor fields?).

If Vendors is another table (or file), you can accomplish what (I think) you wish by two methods:

If you have fields in this existing table that you want to pre-fill with the selected Vendor information, set those fields as Lookups. If you simply want to display the associated Vendor information on a layout based upon a different table, place your Vendor fields on it. You must have the correct relationship from your existing table to the Vendors.

So, what are layout boxes that you want Vendor data to display in? Fields, portal or window? And tell us which table is associated to the current layout where you want Vendor data to display and what is the relevant relationship here? We'll help you figure it out. smile.gif

They are fields. As I scroll the Customer name field, I would like the corresponding fields to appear(?).

Hi Ivan,

Customers or Vendors? Let me try to give you a few ideas and let us know if we're getting *warmer*. wink.gif

If you wish to use a popup (based upon a Value List which contains all your Customers) to quickly jump to a specific Customer, then you are essentially asking for a Find (or Go To Related Record) process. Here are a few questions we need answered to assist you:

1) Is Customers and Vendors the same thing? Or are they two different tables or files?

2) Are you on a Form layout and do you want to quickly jump to another Customer?

3) Would a Columnar/List layout - displaying all of your Customers work better to select from? If you have many customers (more than 15 or so), a popup box probably wouldn't be your best choice. How many Customers are you dealing with?

4) If Vendors is different than Customers and you want to select a Vendor and have the assigned Vendor's information display, then you need to create a relationship from the Vendor field in Customers to your Vendors table 'Vendor' field. Then place the Vendor fields (from your Vendor table) on your Customer form and, when you enter something into this Vendor popup field, the related vendor information will display.

At this point, I am just trying to throw out ideas to get you moving forward - but mostly to get you talking. Over-providing information is much better than under-providing it. Let us know more specifically what you need and we can walk you through it. smile.gif
